Sri Lanka’s external degrees are not recognised even by dogs-S.B
Sri Lanka’s External degrees have no value at all. Unless during election eras when jobs are offered, which are not recognised even by dogs was revealed by Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake while speaking at a function at Piliyandala yesterday.
What he said during his speech are as follows:
“Graduates prefer to hang on to Government jobs. In 1970 graduates were absorbed in abundance. But had to leave as orphans. Hence the External degree holders should not be victims of that sort. Do not attempt to cling on to Government Service. They prefer to enter the Government Service even for a lesser salary. They even join the Government Service leaving jobs where they were paid much higher. During a previous UNP regime 8 lakhs graduates were absorbed into the Government service under the ‘Yali Pibuduma’ programme initiated by them. Within a period of 3 years the numbers were reduced to just 3 lakhs. However lately the President increased the number to 14 lakhs.
Nevertheless there are limits. When the services at Government services decrease automatically the efficiency too decreases. It is pertinent to mention that all those who have migrated to foreign countries in search of greener pastures in the likes of Engineers, Doctors, Administrative officers, Chancellors have been absorbed by private institutions.
In America those who work for Government Institutions is just.8%(point), in England it is 3 %,Singapore 1 %.This reveals that the majority works for the private sector.
There is no value for those who possess External Degrees. They could find jobs only in the election eras. The dogs have more recognition. We hope to commence various types of courses in Piliyandala”
This was told while opening of an University affiliated open Education centre at Piliyandala when the Higher education Minister was invited as a guest.
