How the CCTV camera became useful in catching a thief
Very recently how a thief was caught and arrested by the Police is reported from the Thummulla area with the aid of CCTV camera video tapes. A travelling bag of a commuter had been thrown out of speeding private bus while taking the turn at the Thummulla junction. The bus had stopped only a short distance away.
When the passenger cane running back to collect his travelling bag, which fell off the bus to his surprise, it had already been snatched by some person.
The bag had contained some very valuable items such as such, cash, his mobile phone and some useful belongings and hence he needed to find the travelling bag at any cost. The only alternative he had was to report the matter to the Police.
It was very prudent that nobody was to know about the matter been reported to the Police as it would facilitate Police investigations with the secrecy maintained in order to locate the thief who snatched the ‘travelling’ bag that was lost.
The only way of finding the thief was through the video tapes of CCTV cameras. The Police deployed this method and viewed the tapes from which they were able to view the ‘travelling’ bag falling off the bus. This was picked up by a scavenger of the CMC who was working at the spot. He was shown and proved that he took possession of the bag and hid it with the garbage inside the scavenging cart. All these were shown clearly in the video tapes.
With this conclusive clue he was able to find all his valuables found inside the ’travelling’ bag and the culprit was arrested. This is another instance where a robbery was detected by CCTV cameras installed on the roads.
