Sri Lanka Opposition leader would abolish Z scores under a future UNP government

Jan 13, Colombo: Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremasinghe says the controversial Z scores that determine the entrance to the universities of the students who sit for their GCE Advanced Level examination would be abolished under a future UNP government.
Wickremasinghe said the Z score system has caused much controversy this time due to issues related to its calculation.
He noted that students have lost faith in the examination system in the country due to the mess-up in the whole A/Level Z scores.
Speaking during a meeting organized by the Platform for Freedom, Wickremasinghe observed that the government was responsible for the whole mess-up in the A/Level results this time.
However, he added that a new system should be established to decide on university entrance and that such a system should be formulated after discussions with all stakeholders.
