The government announced that the Advanced level results would be released in early December. This enabled for some students to plan their trip to go abroad and to make arrangements accordingly. The department of examinations created a world record by releasing the Grade 5 scholarship examination results within 20 odd days. But they have failed to release the results of Advanced Level results blaming the lethargic Committee appointed to establish the ‘Z’ scores.
The Commissioner of Examinations had said if they are given due appreciations results could be given in 48 hours, he had quipped once or twice.
The Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake, when inquired had said results could be released last Monday. However the Commissioner of Examinations had declined his statement saying that it cannot be done as the he had received the required the information.
With the intervention of the President on the 24th, the results were to be released on the 25th, Christmas day. The Principals coming under the purview of the Colombo and Jayawardenapura Education offices were requested to call over in the afternoon to collect the results sheets of their respective schools. They waited and waited. Ultimately the results were released only at 11 p.m., like making hoppers The students who had access to the internet and via friends had checked their results. But were alarmed and astonished to know that their results were all wrong and they were unbelievable.
FOR GOOD RESULTS LOW RANKS AND FOR POOR RESULTS GIVEN HIGH RANKS:
The students when they came to know of these discrepancies through disbelief had made complaints to the related authorities about these obvious mistakes. Some had accused of ‘Z’ score marks while some others about taking all marks and making it as a percentage.
DIALOG RANK AND MOBITEL RANK DIFFERS:
Those who obtained results via SMS’s have received two types of results from the Dialog Rank and from the Mobitel Rank. They have released from two separate data bases and hence the results could not be accepted.
WHO IS THE MINISTER?
According to the Department of Examinations the Minister is Bandula Gunawardena. But who speaks about releasing results is the Minister of Higher Education S.B.Dissanayake. It is indeed a pathetic state of affairs. In such confusion the one who should take responsibility is a matter of serious concern.
