CCTV cameras help to solve the bogus complaint made by two Dutch Men made to the Cinnamon gardens Police regarding the theft of a Nikon camera costing 1000 US $:
Two Dutch foreigners had made a complaint to the cinnamon gardens Police station a few days ago, that a Nikon camera they purchased for 1000 US$ was stolen. The camera had been stolen outside the ODEL shop premises while they were crossing the road.
The Police had accepted their complaint, had requested them to come back after two days. The Police had tried during this time to capture the pictures of these two Dutch men from the aid of pictures of CCTV cameras fixed outside the ODEL premises.
The time of their arrival at the ODEL shop and leaving after a couple of hours were able to be captured. The most surprising fact is that they had left the ODEL shop empty handed. They had not carried a camera while leaving. As advised the two Dutch men arrived at the Police Station after two days.
The Police officers had said they were still investigating into their complaint and we are viewing what really happened via our CCTV cameras fixed outside the ODEL shop. Please give us a little more time. They said they are leaving the Island tomorrow and if you could set aside your investigations and give us an official report of the complaint and a report of your investigations it would be sufficient?
At that moment the two Dutch men were arrested. They were told that as tourists you are covered by a huge insurance cover for loss of your belongings while travelling. They told if we issue a report on your complaint you could make a huge insurance claim. But the image of our country would be tarnished. The Police officers said that they are certain that this is a bogus complaint and you require a report to claim insurance. They never knew that from our CCTV cameras their movements could be revealed.
